By participating in the That's Life! Best Chip Shop Competition 2009 you agree to the following terms and conditions.

TRADE:

  1. The promotion is known as: the That's Life! Best Chip Shop Competition 2009.
  2. The Competition is executed on behalf of some members of the “Chip Group”, including: Goodman Fielder New Zealand Limited, The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand, Eurotec, food2Go, Alfa One, Bakels, McCain Foods (NZ) Limited, Mr Chips Limited and; Potatoes New Zealand (an affiliated Product Group of Horticulture NZ), through the naming sponsor That's Life! a Pacific Magazine Limited brand.
  3. Shops entered in last year’s Competition are automatically entered in this year’s Competition, unless they deregister by returning an ‘un-enter’ mailer, which will be sent to all stores in mid-June.
  4. The 6 regions are: (1) Northland to Auckland’s North Shore; (2) Rest of Auckland; (3) Waikato to Wanganui/Hawkes Bay; (4) Manawatu to Wellington; (5) Nelson/ Marlborough to Christchurch and; (6) Timaru to Southland.
  5. Registration of stores can be performed online (www.thechipgroup.co.nz) or by chance visit from your chip supplier
  6. During July, a Competition pack will be couriered to registered shops and all promotional material must be displayed for voting to occur.
  7. Throughout the entire competition, 1 August to 31 October, the Industry Standards poster and at least one Competition poster must be on display.
  8. The customer voting stage of the Competition runs from August 1st 2009 until September 30th 2009 inclusive.
  9. Customer voting is by text message only. One vote per mobile phone number, per shop, will be accepted. Votes can only be registered during the customer voting period as per point 8 above.
  10. During the customer voting period, the official website, www.thechipgroup.co.nz, will list all shops that are entered in the Competition along with their shop code.
  11. Customer text votes are weighted according to the population within the shop’s region.
  12. Customer text voting, mystery judging and chip fat analysis will determine 15 regional finalists selected from each of the six regions across New Zealand. From these finalists, six regional winners and one grand national winner will be selected. All finalists’ and winners’ chip fat results must be under 11%.
  13. Mystery judging can take place on any transaction, at any time during the period 1-31 October 2009, and will be undertaken by officers or appointees of The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand.
  14. Judging criteria will include: chip freshness, chip tastiness, chip healthiness (fat content), type of fat, salt option availability, shop cleanliness and customer service, display of Chip Group Online Training certificate (showing completion of seven modules by at least one staff member). All criteria will be scored and the highest total score in each region will determine the finalists and winner for each region. The entrant shop with the highest overall score will be named grand national winner of the That's Life! Best Chip Shop Competition 2009.
  15. Under no circumstances will the laboratory analyses associated with any of the judging criteria and scores be published or otherwise disclosed to entrants or any other external parties.
  16. Stores entered may use any cooking oil/fat or chip during the Competition. However, the Chip Group recommends outlets should follow the guidelines as set out in the ‘New Zealand Standards for Deep Fried Chips in Independent Fast Food Outlets’. Judging points will be allocated for use of these oils.
  17. Winning stores may not advertise the brand of cooking oil/tallow or chip type they use in association with their winning status without the Chip Group’s permission.
  18. The winning stores cannot make any reference to The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand in their stores, except as contained in official Competition point of sale and awards provided to the stores by or on behalf of the Chip Group.
  19. Stores are allowed to self- promote in order to gain more votes. The Chip Group recommends that stores promote their good frying practice techniques, as the aim of the Competition is to reduce the fat content of chips.
  20. Prizes for the top 15 finalists (in each region) as determined by judging, will be a certificate, plus local publicity if the Competition and results are picked up by local news media.

  22. Prizes for each of the six regional winners will be a plaque, an outdoor sign for their shops and a That's Life! 6 month magazine subscription.
  23. Prizes for the Grand National Winner will be a plaque for their shop, a That's Life! one year magazine subscription, chips from McCain/Mr Chips, oil from Goodman Fielder/ Bakels/Old Fashioned Foods, an outdoor sign for their shop, and publicity, if the Competition and the results are picked up by the news media.

  25. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

CUSTOMER:

  1. The promotion is the That's Life! Best Chip Shop Competition 2009.
  2. Customer votes are by text only, by texting the registration number of the store for which they wish to vote, to short code 4554.
  3. Each text vote costs 20 cents.
  4. Only one vote per mobile phone number per shop will be permitted.
  5. Votes will only be registered, if they are received from August 1st 2009 until September 30th 2009 inclusive.
  6. Each valid vote will automatically enter the user of the mobile phone (provided that person is legally authorised to use that mobile phone for such purposes) into a draw to win a $1,000 hamper filled with goodies.
  7. There are also up to 50 one month That's Life! subscriptions to be won, one instant subscription will be won every 400th text.
  8. The winners will receive a text message that will give them an email address, which they will need to email their contact details in order to redeem their one month That's Life! magazine subscription.
  9. Winners cannot exchange their prizes for cash.
